Dreams of StarDust

The little filly had almost lost herself in the realm of imagination. Rocks around her had become living things, feelings and thoughts flowed through them just as they flowed through her. Dreams and thoughts of gods, warriors, and thieves had fueled her mind mere days after she had been born. In her mind, she had played in the locks of the sun gods and adventured with the queen of thieves. Taika had no concept being bound to earth by her physical being as her mind raced in a world of her created reality.

She played and danced around the rocks, diving through the swirling mists caused by the spray of water. With each twist her game changed from chasing to being chased by the imagery in her mind. A true voice called out to her, breaking through her invisible playmates and she stopped atop a moss covered boulder, looking at Pan with curiosity from his odd greeting. Her chocolate eyes were bright with interest and excitement. He had been looking for her? No one had looked for her except her mother and guardians. She was sure he was not her guardian. He called her a shadow, and she laughed, already knowing she was going to be bound to no one.

”I am no shadow!” The filly’s voice was bubbling with laughter and giggles. ”I am Taika!” She looked at the rocks she had been fighting. ”Fairies were being held captive by the rocks and the earth gods. They asked me to free them. In return they would teach me how to fly!” With droplets of water from the mist and the falls shining in her spiky mane, coupled with the silver that was spreading over her body, she did indeed look as though she had been sprinkled with the gifts of the fairies she freed. Wishing she could fly, Taika leapt off the boulder, kicked out her legs, and slid to a slippery landing beside Pan. Unperturbed by her less than graceful flight she pranced around him, her energy a constantly overflowing cup.

”I could be a shadow. But I think the fairies would try to fight to free me!” She stopped and looked at him. Somewhere in her mind she remembered her mother speaking to her. She had said something about strangers. It seemed important at the time, but this new face in front of her, one that looked so different from her own and the other foals she had played with, was irresistible to her. Besides, they were not strangers. His name was Pan.

Soft ears flicked and she pulled her gaze away from the stallion, down the river from the falls. ”I think there are more things in need of rescue!” Fearless and bold, she bumped him excitedly. ”Will you help me free them, Pan?
