I just saw what I thought was a deer clear the highway after taking exit 8B for North Smithfield. Only, it wasn't a deer, and it wasn't a dog either. It was a long-bodied, tawny-colored, long-tailed, small-headed, cougar! And it bounded across the highway! Literally jumping across in a matter of a couple of leaps to race across into the dirt and grass and disappear. Before I really got a good look at it, it was gone. But I know it wasn't a deer or a dog! Which is what I thought it first was! I just know we have mountain lions now in Northern RI!
