I think the larger Walleye got to be large by realizing the dangers during the daytime are greater than they are at night. Walleye can see fine at night, which makes for easy meals for Walleye at night. During the daytime, many of these fish have returned to deeper water and don't intend to be active again until the conditions turn the table to their advantage.
