Marten

Yesterday (March 4, afternoon), my daughter and I observed on our property at Orkney Beach an animal, which we identified to be a Marten. It was a short observation: about 30 seconds as it came trudging through the snow from a cedar hedge, around our feeder, and then disappeared underneath a stand holding our kayaks and canoe. At first I thought it was a weird-looking cat. But we don't see cats here even in the summer. Our identification of the animal was confirmed again today with a slightly shorter observation. It had a cat-like face, yellowish fur, bushy tail but slightly smaller than a cat. We have squirrels and occasional rabbits (and signs of mice) also feeding at the base of the feeder. A couple of weeks ago I found some pieces of fur which suggested to me an animal kill.
