Kids For Turtes

We had a situation here in Cambridge this week where a group of people were witnessed removing turtles from the Speed River, presumably for human consumption. The scat hit the fan here on FB. In an effort to turn all this in to a positive, I've been doing some research. Do any of you good folks know if the Kids For Turtles started in Orillia still exists or better yet has it grown? Any other info about initiatives to protect turtles and their nests would be helpful.
