In the days that followed my mother's victory, things grew rather quiet on the mountainside. It was a time for those of us who had been gone for the past year to settle back into our home, to familiarize ourselves with wolves that had not been pack when we had left. At two years old I could have returned to my mother's den with her, and in fact I did on those first few nights, but I felt the need to find a place within Spirane that was mine alone. I had yet to find the perfect niche within which I fit, but I knew that I would find a den for myself, or create a new one. But there was more to finding my own place within the pack then just choosing a den. Daenerys had declared tasks for the multitude of available ranks, and very few wolves had stepped forward to voice their intentions to work towards them. My uncle, Sleekwing, would be hosting a bit of a competition for those who coveted his role of master warrior, and I liked the sound of that. But then, there was the newly officiated role of Heir. Was I heir material? And what would my mother require of me to prove I was the right girl for the job?
Many of the tasks Daenerys required of the pack were to go out into Moladion and learn of the state of things - learn about Tithe and Roman, meet with the gypsies, speak with members of other packs, gain a general knowledge of what the population of Moladion was feeling in regards to the state of affairs. Maybe, even if I wasn't sure just what rank I fit best, I could still help out by spending a few days beyond our borders and gathering some of the information required of the tasks that no one else had taken up. And maybe if my travels took me closer to Diveen I could check in on Hektor.
I did not have any particular mission in mind as I jogged away from Spirane, thinking that it might be easiest just to see who or what I encountered and gather information as it was presented to me. Making my way towards the crags, I decided to mosey through them and see who I might run into. The thought crossed my mind that maybe this was the job for me - scouting. Well, there was no better way to figure it out than to give it a try, experiment a bit if you will, and see how I measured up...and how the job measured up to me.
A flash of white fur moving hastily through the rocks and streams caught my attention, and I paused mid-step, sniffing at the air. I was upwind of her and caught a mild hint of her scent, but didn't recognize it. There was a moment of consideration for the idea of stalking her for a while and learning a little more about her, but then she came around a large outcropping of rock and she was coming my way. I was in plain sight, so the notion of stalking her went out the window. Time to make a more direct approach of it. "In a hurry to get somewhere?" I asked, grinning amicably at the shewolf. Well, it was her move now. And if she really was in a hurry, this interaction might not bring me as much information as I'd hoped it would.
