The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.
Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Someone tell me, tell me I survived.

The last time I'd stepped foot on the island of Salem I was just a boy.

I was following Kasabian on orders from the Lagoon. I was a fresh recruit, having been dropped off by Valentine just weeks before. Somehow I ended up here where I learned the buckskin stallion was my half-brother. I was merely a child then, swept up in the joy I felt that I had any family beyond my mother. She never told me who my father was. Not that it mattered much, but I still found myself thinking about it. I worried what could happen if I shared a sire with Kasabian. That meant that whatever sickness he had could be in my blood too. But look at me. I'm OK. Seriously. I'm OK.

I wander up the semi-familiar shore of this desert island, memories of my time here with Kasabian coming to the forefront of my mind. He'd been unkind then, snapping at me and driving me toward the Desert while he headed toward the Dunes. I foolishly stumbled along with no set path in mind. Thank God Orhan had found me. I know now how treacherous the sand can be when coupled with this kind of dry heat. I won't stay here longer than I have to this time.

Salem was the closest island to Luthien, therefore it made sense that I start my hunt for Vita Nova here. I felt comfortable with my choice to begin in the Desert. If Orhan was still here, I'd hope he'd remember me fondly, if at all. He had shown kindness to a stupid young bachelor then. Perhaps he could be helpful now as I try to hunt down my family.

The Desert seems untouched from the last time I was here. The sand continues for miles, sloping dunes loom in the distance. I continue at a slow but deliberate pace, eyes peeled from a break in the sand. I know there's an oasis around here somewhere.
