Live through this lie
Paradiso

Was I left behind?
Someone tell me, tell me I survived.

I had left Samhain with the herd long after the sun had set and seemingly all had bed down for the evening. I strolled along the borders of our home in the usual fashion finding nothing of interest to make me hesitate or investigate further. Though by the time I had rounded the last border and was headed back to the herd, I heard the faint cry of an unfamiliar voice in the distance. A snort escapes through my flared nostrils and I urge my heaving frame into a thudding two-beat trot. I don't immediately move in the direction of the call, however, I head to where I know the herd has lay for the night, furious to find all inhabitants there except for Paradiso, Ostara and Samhain.

I decide to leave Dreadbite in charge, the only other who has known this terrain for years, and head out toward the border of the Forest where the call came from. A worry hangs heavily on my heart while I leave the terrain alone and unprotected, eyes peeled for the spotted colors of Samhain in the night. I smell Paradiso and Ostara strongly, and eventually spy a grouping of our kind not far into the forest.

Samhain is there with the two foals in tow, as are two others, one mare who makes it clear by her aggressive body language that she is in charge of this part of the island. I introduce myself with a hoarse whinny, sliding up alongside Paradiso and nipping him sharply on his hind end. He is trembling with fear and yelps in response to my bite. I arrive just in time to hear Samhain speak, though I regard him only with pinned ears and narrowed eyes. He'd left his post to pursue the foals, leaving me with the difficult decision to either leave the herd alone or allow him to handle diplomatic concerns on my behalf. I did not trust him enough with the latter and am annoyed that I was forced into making this decision in the first place.

I nod and eye the mare and spotted stallion. I assess him for a moment, as I had picked up his scent along the trail while still in the Prairie. "It seems to me your stallion is who lead our kin astray." I say, staring hard at him now. "He had no business being in the Prairie in the first place."

With a swipe of my tail I push my nuzzle to Paradiso's shoulder, nudging him hard enough that he takes a sidestep into Ostara. "Perhaps it's better if you take them home, Samhain." I say, briefly eyeing the stallion before adverting my gaze to the mare.

"This is hardly the introduction I had hoped for when I learned we had new neighbors. To repeat Samhain, you will have no more trouble from the Prairie. And I hope we can come to trust one another in the future for the safety of all of Luthien." I say, bobbing my heavy head again. "I am Shamwari, by the way. The leader of the Prairie."
