I am the razor in the hands of your heart;
And I am the razor in the hands of God.
For the first time in what felt like a long time, Evaline's thoughts drifted momentarily back to Gabbar and Avangeline. Her golden ears swiveled forward and back as her heart sank. The altercation she'd had with the young buckskin mare hadn't sat well in her gut since she'd fled Salem. But now she felt the strong, sharp pains of guilt building up inside of her. Maybe it was the kindness Inka shared with her that made Evaline think harder about her current situation and the horses she had back in the Dunes who clearly cared about her. Or maybe she just needed this time away to realize what she did have. Evaline lets the moment pass quickly with just a strict flick of her tail before focusing back on Inka.
Evaline listens intently as the darker mare talks about her children. She finds it interesting how many things they have in common with one another, from Rook to Valentine, to the number of children they both had. Perhaps if the palomino mare had been less self absorbed at a younger age she would have found more things in common with those of her same sex. It dawns on her how how few friends she had, despite a lifetime of meeting new horses and moving from herd to herd. Evaline isn't sure how to feel about it in this moment, but she is most certainly conflicted.
The golden mare notices Inka's discomfort and registers it quietly. She bobs her head as she lists off her children, noting the way she described the last -- her adopted son. Why any mare would take in a child that wasn't their own is beyond Evaline. But she sees that Inka is different. She cares more about those around her than herself. "I'm sure he doesn't know how lucky he is to have found you." Evaline notes with a small smile.
When Inka asks about visiting Shamwari, Evaline holds her breathe for a long moment. Shamwari didn't know who his father was. He knew it wasn't Valentine, but he never pestered her much about it as a child or even now as an adult. She wondered what his reaction would be, to learn from the lips of a stranger, that he had all this family among the isles all this time. Evaline's heart beat firmly in her chest as she considered this. She settled on that he had a right to know. And she wasn't brave enough to be the one to tell him anyway. "I'm sure he would love that." She said, forcing an uncomfortable smile across her maw.
