nor believe that the hazard of life can pay the price of it

she chuckles as he speaks the familiar phrase, wishing they had met once again on better circumstances. she has made no attempt to disguise the mild bruises and soreness that is common after battle but has guessed word of the scuffle had already gotten around. her ears flatten slightly as he mentions the stallion who tried to steal away her home and despite the strength and endurance shored up within her body, she heaves a weary sigh of relief when shamwari reiterates his allegiance to her. she did not know how much she could ask of him, but is glad to know now, that he will help her with all he can.

a small smile tugs at the corners of her mouth when he mentions the colt paradiso joining her in the forest. she would willingly accept all the help she can get and she remembers fondly the boy whom she had frightened awfully just a short time ago. it pains her to know of all the things he would come to do that her own deceased son could not, but that wound was slowly healing over. she nods in agreement and speaks, as cheerfully as she can but still in her own brisk manner.

the stallion you speak of has come and tried to take my home but i did not allow it. i'm sure, however, it will not be his last effort. i am grateful for your allegiance and would come to your aid if ever you needed it in return. as for paradiso it would be a great honor to have him here.

despite the cold, the sun glares through the canopy of the trees, streaming in hard rays that look almost like you could touch them. shadows of the pine boughs and leaves dance on the snow at their feet and the air smells fresh and crisp. her herd may be small but her affinity for it is enormous and her devotion to the forest is even greater. nothing will come between it and her. she looks upward, her dark eyes glinting in the sun, and sees the bird that had taken flight only moments ago soaring high above them, wondering if he cared at all, who he shared his home with. her body relaxes for the moment, glad to have a chance to rest while in the presence of another equine and she looks at her neighbor with deep appreciation. her voice is softer when she speaks again.

thank you shamwari. this place is dear to me, as i'm sure your home is to you.
