Question about the new Challenges board!

Helloooo Aspie (and any who know the answer)! This new challenges board looks real nifty, but I have a few questions, mostly about this bit:

"You can complete or work towards multiple challenges at a time, and one post might help you towards multiple badges. Badges can be achieved out of order, so you might get a Silver before you get a Bronze. There is, however, no back-claiming for any badges allowed. Any posts you make or things you do to earn a badge only count from December 25th 2016 onwards."

So I definitely understand the last bit, but I'm not sure what the out-of-order part means? Can you give an example?

And then what about the "1 badge per character" note? Does that mean you should wait to claim a badge, if you think you can make silver or gold with them for that particular challenge?
