SOME THINGS ARE BETTER LEFT UNSAID

NYAZIK

During the early hours, Nyazik had observed from a high dune as her mother and Wolpertinger entered the ocean and disappeared in its wake. Their departure was perplexing to the young, buckskin mare. They had admitted that they did not intend to leave the islands altogether yet, what did they expect to find outside of Salem? Wolpertinger would be fine toiling away in dirty forests, but Nyazik's mother was a child of the sand and she would find no solace away from it. Nyazik could tell Keyik that this would be a mistake until she was blue in the face, but she held her tongue. She had never been one to expend valuable energy on undoubtedly fruitless pursuits. Her mother would realise her mistake eventually, and then perhaps she would embrace her birth right - here or in the old lands. Regardless, Nyazik had faith that her blood would always prevail in the end.

With the ever soaring heat against her back, she made her way nimbly across the rolling sands, the blue ocean disappearing behind the sea of shifting sands. She was made for this, now a complete natural at navigating the ever changing landscape with barely a second thought. She belonged to the dunes every bit as much as the black mare who ruled them, even if she had not yet assimilated herself into Valve's ranks. She had observed as the herd dwindled, first the Akhal-Teke sentry, Avangeline, closely followed by the Arabian stallion, Gabbar - whom she had never had the pleasure, or displeasure, of meeting face to face. Even, the children of the part-arab mare, Evaline, had disappeared as suddenly as they had come into the world. It did not take a genius to know those foals were a result of her kidnapping to the lagoon – it would not surprise Nyazik if the mare had disposed of them herself. Nyazik would have, if she had been in Evaline’s hooves.

With ease, Nyazik made her way to one of the small oasis’ within the dunes. It was not near where Valve and Evaline had been frequenting, although it was not far either. She dipped her head down to the tepid water, not much minding if someone else should join her.
