This is no ordinary love

The steely grey mare reveled in the silence, for once, as she drank delicately from the cool pool at the base of the falls. She drank her fill, and stood quietly as she marveled the waterfalls in the distance. The cool mist felt fine on her coat, even though it was still damp with seawater. The mare was so enthralled in her own miserable thoughts to notice the painted stallion approach. She heard him before she saw him. Droplets of her drink still clunk to the whiskers around her muzzle. Her jaws churned mechanically and her ears lay flat against her poll instinctively in response to this stallion's cheeky pick-up line. She snorts at him after she sizes him up, her icy-blue stare taking note of the way he held his head so high and pranced over easily in such a chauvinistic manner.

What was so humorous about this situation is if he had met her just a year before, Vita Nova would have been delighted to fawn all over him. He was exactly the kind of stallion she had hoped Koray would be when she found him sulking alone here on the Crossing Isle. She wanted a playful, charismatic stallion to whisk her away, to charm her, to love her. But instead, she got Koray. What a sad state of events. Too bad this painted one had missed his chance.

"Not you nor the Gods can help me." She spat, rolling his name 'Orkaan' over and over in her mind. Her ears remained tucked underneath the wavy strands of gray mane, warning him to keep his distance. "I am a lost cause, by no fault of my own." She babbled.

She could feel the warm salty tears welling in her bottom eye lids, but before she could become completely emotionally unhinged, another stallion approached, one Nova immediately identified as Koray. He rashly pushed past her to stand between her and the painted stallion. She squealed in surprise and urged her frame backward several steps, so much so that her back legs pushed into the shallow depths of the pool. The mare's heart was beating so fast in her ears, so much so that it deafened the sounds of the falls behind her and even Koray's speech. She knew she would be punished for this escapade. Though Nova couldn't help but be somewhat impressed that Koray had finally caught on her to sneak-away excursions. There was a part of her that still wanted to rouse something in him, even if it was an extreme distaste or hate for her. At least it showed he cared about something.

"I am not your slave, Koray," Nova spat between exasperated exhales. She kept her distance from the perlino stallion as best she can, remembering the way he had lunged at his own sister not that long ago. Her icy stared bounced from the stranger to Koray, back and forth, as she assessed her options in this moment. But no outcome she could muster seemed to have the pleasant ending she so hoped for.
