what have they put in the water?

Selenium shifts her weight to keep her joints from locking up, having plenty of experience with keeping her body limber under cold conditions. She watches Qadir with slight amusement, noting that the longer they stay in the pool, the more uncomfortable the stallion appears. She doesn’t understand why he doesn’t just get out; they can hold a conversation perfectly well with him on the water’s edge.

His response to her mention of Salem takes her by surprise and her mouth hangs open stupidly for a moment. She may have expected him to ask her what the desert island is like, but considering that he’d just left his old one, she wouldn’t have expected him to want to visit another so soon.

Before she can come up with an answer, however, he’s describing the sand waterfall he’d told her about. She tilts her head and looks at the waterfall again, trying to picture sand in place of the gushing water. She mentally recoils at the very thought of it.

”Does the spray of the sand get in your eyes? I’d imagine that would be a bit more irritating than the mist that a waterfall creates,” she ponders, looking at Qadir in curiosity.

A grin crosses Selenium’s lips as the stallion finally drags his bulk out of the water. She snorts and immediately drops to her knees, rolling so that the chill can seep into every possible inch of her smoky blue speckled and white patched body. She sighs with delight as the shivers begin racing down her spine, and she reluctantly pulls herself back up. Her blue eyes find him as she stands there unrepentant, grin still in place.

He repeats his request and her smile slips. Salem is the one island that she’d been sure to steer clear of in the past – with her large body, mass of mane and tail, and hairy fetlocks, she’s always felt that such a sandy place would not be good for her. She’s enjoyed her time with her new friend, however, and she supposes it wouldn’t hurt to let him see the place. ”I don’t know anybody there so we’ll have to tread lightly,” she advises, not bothering to mention that she doesn’t know anybody anywhere else either. ”We can start in the Dunes and work our way to the Desert, if you like.”

She’s not sure why, but she’s already getting a sense of foreboding about this trip.
