DIAMANT

When she spoke again, his stomach flip-flopped. A queen - that was who was staring back at him. It certainly explained the lack of empathy in her face, and the self-assured air that surrounded her.

Suddenly it did not matter that he towered over her; she exuded enough presence for the both of them. Standing there, stark and pallid against the dark evergreens and looking back at him with cool blue eyes, she somehow made him feel miniscule, and all the more ashamed that she had caught him sobbing like a colt. It did not help that she was beautiful and pale enough to have been born on the moon.

Diamant had no prior experience of queens, however, and he had just begun to wonder whether he should lower himself onto one knee and beg for her forgiveness for trespassing when she smoothly informed him that he would be staying here as part of her herd. He blinked his bleary eyes, then turned to face her full-on with an expression of bewilderment.

"Excuse me?" he replied, remembering his manners too late. "I mean - pardon me, but did I hear you right? You... You want me to stay here with you?"
