As Nymphadora shakes her head, sending her dark mane flying, Zephyra lets her amber eyes wander around the territory. It looks rather barren without the snow that the island is known for, but the time will soon come for everything to be blanketed in white. The temperature at night will get incrementally colder, and the daytime temperatures will swiftly follow.
Zephyra is a little surprised that Orkaan is so willing to reveal a part of his heritage that as far as she is concerned should be sacred. Her sister, however, obviously doesn’t have that problem as she practically vibrates with excitement. ”Oh, that would be wonderful!” Nymphadora exclaims. She casts a sudden, furtive look at Zephyra, who is trying not to show how much she disapproves of the idea. She has never been able to fool her twin, so Nymphadora adds a little hastily, ”But maybe now’s not the best time. What else do you have to show us?”
Her gaze is suddenly riveted with nervousness, shifting back and forth between each black and white figure. For her part, Zephyra meets Orkaan’s eyes unrepentantly. ”I’m sorry if I offended you, but I have a right to ask. It wouldn’t be very responsible of you to interfere in something that’s none of your business and end up risking bringing trouble here. My sister and I will not stay here if angry leaders are going to turn up and put us in danger. This island’s dangerous enough.”
Nymphadora immediately cries, ”Zephyra, don’t say that!” It takes a minute for the stallion’s final words to sink in, and as soon as they do, the blue roan’s expression turns to one of horror. Her eyes well up, tears threating to spill as her stricken gaze turns to Orkaan. ”You mean you involved somebody who has nothing to do with it?! Why didn’t you just steal the one who was already a prisoner? Surely that would have been simpler!”
Unlike her sister, Nymphadora is not rethinking her decision to accompany Orkaan to the Inlet, but this newfound situation does make her want to challenge Zephyra to a good, long race that will take them from one end of the territory to the other. That would hopefully be able to help her deal with all of the upsetting emotions she’s suddenly feeling. She doesn’t think that Zephyra would be susceptible to that idea, though, judging by the stony look her sister is giving Orkaan.
