I am the razor in the hands of your heart;
And I am the razor in the hands of God.
Hot exhales fled the palomino mare's pink nostrils with haste as she tried to catch her breathe. Her breathing was just starting to become less erratic when two stallions appeared in the distance. Evaline narrowed her eyes in an effort to see them with greater clarity, and became somewhat alarmed at the pace and vigor the paler one took to reach them. He didn't seem outwardly aggressive, but he pushy was enough for Evaline to cast a somewhat concerned look in Valve's direction. Valve, as stoic as ever, did not move. So Evaline too, stiffened up, raising her small, but chiseled head high over her withers, She didn't bother to try to hide her mangled ear.
Evaline stared hard at the pale stallion. She thought he was gangly and awkward, but his expression hardened and sour. Immediately she didn't like him. And thus, she didn't try to hide the look of distaste that crossed over her features. The buckskin on the other hand seemed kinder. She had heard his name before. Perhaps from Shamwari. Her son knew Vita Nova was living here, and it would be unlike him to not investigate what kind of horses his kin was keeping company with. Evaline snorts at Orhan, however, watching his beady eyes as they dance from her mangled ear to the faces of the others in their collective group. But Evaline bobs her head when Valve introduces her. "I believe you know several of my kin." The mare adds hoarsely, pining for a drink but knowing now is not the time to ask. "Vita Nova is my daughter and Shamwari is my son." She explains.
Her attention follows Valve's as another horse hammers their way. It only takes Evaline a second to recognize the steel-colored mare ambling toward them as her daughter. Evaline returns her call with one of her one, a weak, but high-pitched whinny, as Vita Nova approaches. She doesn't move to meet her daughter, but a grin a mile wide is plastered across her lips. Vita Nova looks good, physically. Her coat his healthy and shining. She is in good weight but is clearly pregnant. A flicker of worry hits Evaline in her chest at this realization. It was easier to stomach Shamwari spreading his seed. But Nova, her only daughter, was about to be a mother? She was still so young.
Something was off, aside from the pregnancy, which Evaline could see behind her daughter's blue eyes. There was worry there. Fear. Despite Nova's dramatic and emotional display during their reunion, she could tell her daughter was being cautious given their company. A flicker of anger rises in the palomino mare as she considers this. One of these two stallions had wronged her daughter. Evaline wouldn't leave the Desert today without finding out who it was and what happened.
Nevertheless, Evaline pushes away her vengeance for now and revels in just being with Nova. The golden mare wraps her head over her daughters withers, snaking her nose along her grey neck in a passionate and rare embrace. Whatever had transpired before, and the length of time that spanned since she'd last seen her daughter as a cute, spirited filly, didn't matter now. "You look good, my dear. All grown up." Evaline says with a smile as she releases her from her grip. "I hope you are being well tended to, seeing as you're about to be a new mother." She allows her stern gaze to dance over to the two stallions in the distance for just a brief second. "Stop apologizing Nova. You were young and I was wrong. I am just so pleased to see you now. Do you know I live just next door in the Dunes?"
Evaline eyes the group, watching as Valve gives them some space and directs the conversation between the three of them to something else. The golden mare takes the opportunity to do the same, and nudges her daughter with her shoulder before walking a few feet away from the group. "Why don't you show your mother where I can get a drink." She says loudly as she saunters away. Later, in a low voice she adds: "Which one is the problem? Don't sugarcoat it. I can help."
