Mountain Lion in Groton MA?

I heard a low, guttural roar in my backyard this evening around 12:30am. It happened three times within about a 5 min window. It was extremely loud-- a large animal. We have seen bear in our neighborhood and I assumed that's what it was. When I began researching the sound I heard, however, a bear seems unlikely. The closest thing I could find was a cougar/mountain lion roar.
