 It has been too long. It may have even taken longer for her to get here were Evren not so consumed by guilt. She does not take promises lightly, and she has thought of Vita Nova often over the past few months, but Evren’s life has changed irrevocably in the time since the two mares parted. And time has a way of speeding out of your grasp when you have lost someone you love.
Evren naturally made for the inlet first - a decision made almost unbearable by the frigid winter temperatures - but found it abandoned. Her first thought was of the last time she had seen Orkaan: unconscious on the ground, having collapsed in the middle of their fight. She wonders now if he had died that day, or soon after; it would certainly explain why there was no trace of him or his herd. She cares nothing for the stallion, however, and the thought only gives her the smallest flux of alarm.
She is grateful to find it somewhat less freezing here on the crossing isle, though the winter winds still cut deep against her thin desert pelt. Evren is forced to keep moving to stay warm, though shivers still wrack her damp body as she paces along the edge of the snowy meadow. It’s quiet here - too quiet - and she can see no one that she might ask about Vita Nova’s whereabouts. This is looking like a dead end.
Her mind races to think where she might look for her friend next. Perhaps Shamwari had freed her after all?
