Mariael frowned. Staying in the Inlet for a while?
All too quickly it clicked, and the creases of her frown hardened, lips pressed hard together. While she’d been willing to allow Warsaw the time he needed to adjust to the idea of being ruled by a mare, she hadn’t considered he’d actively seek to challenge various island herds and take their members. In truth, Mariael didn’t care if Warsaw went on a path to ravage the fellow islands and steal members from them he felt suited for his home… so long as he didn’t touch someone who was a considerably ally to Tinuvel. Persephone was Mariael’s ally, which made her untouchable.
Persephone’s next words only confirmed what she’d already thought, and Mariael’s displeasure at the news was all too obvious. Snorting, she shifted her legs – too much energy was building in her veins to stay still – and shook her head.
“That fool,” she spat, looking off into the Inlet to gather her thoughts and keep herself from doing what she’d love to do, which was march past Persephone, find Warsaw and give him a damn piece of her mind. Instead she glanced back at Persephone and sighed. “I’m sorry, Persephone. I met him when he first came to the Inlet only a little while ago, and I don’t know much. He was shaken by the idea that I could rule a territory…” Mariael paused only briefly, “and even more shaken when I told him I intended to rule the entirety of this island myself. I was giving him a period to adjust to the news before I pressed to see if he’d accept my rule…”
She trailed off and shook her head, “I didn’t think he’d go off and challenge an ally of mine.”
Her tail flicked at her hind end and she peered again into the Inlet. “How has he treated you?”
Were Mariael to learn Persephone was treated wretchedly, there would be no stopping her from beating submission into Warsaw right then and there.
