A General once told me " be careful what you pick to fall on your sword on". Matthis chose it twice . Once at CentCom under Obama, and now under Trump. That said, I do not doubt his qualifications or sincerity. I am having a hard time, however, understanding what 2000 "troops" in Syria are there to accomplish other than as a trip wire of sorts. We (the US Government) have a tendency to get ourselves into a situation with absolutely no idea of the requirements to extricate ourselves. 15 + years in Afghanistan, Viet Nam for nearly the same. Then we end up having to leave without really winning anything other than sacrificing our precious blood and youth.
