Re(2): Some Interesting Marine Corps History

When green Private Ed Tipshus USMC new from Parris Island Boot Camp joined the 2nd Marine Division in Camp Lejeune NC in 1947 it was apparent that the 782 gear (web equipment) was worn and tattered (WW2 leftovers) and neither any Infantry Battalionn in the Division
were up to strength - mostly half strength. C ration were in old cans and training was sparse. It is amazing how the Corps quickly reconstituted itself at the start of the Korean War , but everywhere there was a regular Marine (warm body) they were shippped to California (some from Marine Barracks from Naval Station Annapolis- those guys that handle the rifle range our Plebe summer). BUT the recall of the Marine Reserves (WW2 tough veterans) produce a strong cohesive Marine fighting in Korea ( first - 1st Provision Brigade acting as the "fire brigade in the Pusan perimeter ) then the full First Marine division making the amphibious attack at Inchon that turned te war ariund )
