Her alert ears were the first to pick up on someone approaching from the water, her head snapping up warily as she eyed the golden colored stallion. Her body quivered as the smell of testosterone reached her. Great, another stallion. It would take but a few weeks for her flesh to heal from the wounds of another, but it would take far longer for her mind to heal from the abuse she was put under. Her trust in stallions had all but been severed. None were to be trusted. The golden stallion hadn't tried to come closer so she held her ground at the tree but continued to watch him. Her stomach was in knots now so she couldn't even think to eat. She needed to keep an eye on him. He hadn't spoken to her or called out, but her muscles were tense anyway, ready for escape if it was called for. Her tail swished at her flanks to show her agitation as she swung her head up, the whites of her eyes rolling as she watched the stallion. Her nostrils flared, breathing in his scent. He must have come from another island. How many were there around here and how many horses lived on them? How many stallions were here? She didn't know how safe she would feel. She felt helpless, trapped. The stallion looked around as if looking for someone else and for a moment she felt relief, thinking maybe he'd come to find someone and he wasn't looking for her. But as soon as he seemed to see there was no one else around, he looked back at her and she snorted in response, still eying him cautiously. "What do you want...?" The words were whispered, the distress clear in her voice and she knew he probably wouldn't even hear her. The words were more her speaking out loud than anything.
