The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.
Live through this lie [Roheryn, Liland >]

Was I left behind?
Tell me, tell me I survived.

I watched as the young stallion waded into the shallow surf at the shoreline of the Prairie. The second I'd asked him to come with me to Salem, his whole demeanor changed. I was pleasantly surprised by this upbeat lift- it made me eager to spend more time with Roheryn on this short journey. The trip would seve a number of purposes. For one, I had hoped to distract Roheryn as much as I could from the fact that Sanibel had been taken, and there wasn't much we could do in the immediate timeframe to get her back. My wounds were healing from my recent battle with Rougaru, but the shame I felt from letting Sanibel slip so easily from my grasp hardened me.

My sore muscles ached and burned during the short, but daunting swim from Luthien to Salem. Roheryn had at least made the trek from Atlantis to Luthien just once, so I was confident the able-bodied boy would be able to make the swim on this cool, autumn day. Before we left the Prairie, I explained to Roheryn that Salem was a desert island. No matter how I described the land of sand and dunes and endless sky, I wouldn't do it justice. He had just had to see the terrain for himself. But I also explained the dangers of such a place. There was a reason why outsiders didn't travel here in spring or summer - the heat was deadly. Our trip here as fall was on the verge of winter, was very much a calculated one.

I had met Liland just once before, in the commons on the heels of battle with his former neighbor, Warsaw. It seemed the grey stallion had succeeded in expelling the Fjord stallion from the island. It pained me to hear this - Warsaw was nothing more than nuisance. But what complicated things was he now had both my sister and my only ally in his clutches. My mind returns to Evren's visit, and the seriousness in her eyes about Persephone's captivity. We were a united front on Luthien, but clearly that was not enough. We needed more to join us, to fight back, if needed. The islands were quiet these days, and Liland was really our best bet at strengthening our defenses.

The colt and I rose from the waters onto the sore of the Desert. I stood stoically on the beach from some time, letting the seawater pool and drip back into the sand. It had been years since I'd been on Salem. Evaline used to live here, and so did Valve, another former, esteemed ally. But this is where Evren was from - where her father and her brother once ruled, before she did herself. I wonder if she ever returned here, once she came back to the islands. But why was I still thinking about that outspoken, rude mare? I snort once, trying to get her tri-colored frame out of my mind. And then I turn to Roheryn. "What do you think?"

OOC: Tay - I sped up the time a little bit... I hope that's OK.
