PERSEPHONE

Persephone’s ears flicked at the sound of rocks shifting against each other as hooves passed over them. She turned her head to see a young, golden mare approaching her as she headed towards the Inlet. There was something vaguely familiar about the girl’s face, and curiosity flickered faintly in the back of her mind.

“Hello,” Persephone returned, wondering whether this youngster lived under Warsaw’s rule. Was she one of his children? She didn’t look much like him. “I’m here to see Warsaw.”

Before she could say much else – not that she knew what else to say to the girl that was appropriate – the sound of another approaching caught her attention. She knew it was Warsaw before she even looked. Her ears flattened against her skull for a moment, but she refused to flinch as he breathed along her neck and moved in close to them.

“It didn’t take much thought,” she replied coolly. “I already gave you my answer.”

She ignored the rest of his jokes, instead turning her attention to the way he nibbled on the young girl’s neck. His daughter, then, he confirmed, although no resemblance appeared in Persephone’s eyes.

“She must get that from her mother,” She retorted, glancing at the girl with a small smile.

Warsaw seemed to turn to business then, although judging by his crude joke and smug smirk, it didn’t sound like it was going to very business-like to Persephone. She tilted her head at him, if she had eyebrows she might have raised them.

“If you can’t say it in front of your daughter I’m not sure how attractive that deal is going to be to me.”
