Everglow heard the huge body turn to face her, and felt warm breath on her face. She nearly recoiled, but held her ground, ears pinned and forehead wrinkled in a frown. Her lips parted in disbelief at the rude words that reached her ears. She almost retorted, but then the stranger was moving to her side, and she felt him pressing his bulk against her damp coat. Her skin crawling with the invasion of personal space, she sidestepped away from him, but not quickly enough to avoid feeling his lips against her ear or hearing the threat he hissed.
She whipped her head around to bare her teeth in his face. “If you touch me again, I’ll scream,” she replied. She had been planning on asking him where she was - to determine if she had, in fact, swum to the right place - but there was no way she was doing that now. Clearly she had made the mistake of running into the biggest creep on the island. If she had to, she would throw herself back into the sea to get away from him.
“I’ll pass on your ‘offer’,” she spat. “Gentlemen don’t make threats. And I can manage just fine on my own, thanks.” Everglow turned and began walking away, head high with pride. Something told her the stranger would not get away that easily, but she was a fool if she was just going to stand around and let him take advantage of her.
