Cain could tell that Geneva was no meek mare. She would have been able to defend herself if the stranger had tried anything but still, he'd done his duty as lead stallion and defended her as was his role. Sure, she could have had his back and teamed up with him on the mare but he'd have been distracted with not wanting to accidentally hurt her in the midst of all the fighting so he was glad that Geneva had only watched. She had done just as he wanted by standing back out of harm's way. That way he knew her and his unborn child was safe. Once the mare was gone, Geneva was quick to come to him and he appreciated her support but he wasn't used to it. So many mares had turned their teeth on him in anger that he'd almost come to expect the gesture, so Geneva's kindness was surprising and refreshing.

She told him that the mare didn't dare to harm her, else she would have been bloody by the time he got there. He chuckled. "I believe you." Lifting his head a little, he turned it just so he could watch her as she raked her teeth against his withers. It still felt so good but he wanted to know how to do it as well. Was this how herds grew closer together? Anything had to help. He watched her for a few moments before he moved his own teeth to her back. Reminding himself that he wasn't trying to pierce the skin, he let out a breath and slowly raked his teeth up her back. Was he doing it right? She would be sure to know he'd never done this before.
