The stallion had thought touching her would be too much; that Evanescence would pull away. Although she tensed, she further proved Ruger’s words to be true. A small step towards what she would accomplish. What she said in return made his ears flick forward, a brief moment of hope glinting in their golden depths. The painted stallion couldn’t help the small smile that touched his dark lips, although it was partly sad for what he had lost. “There could never be another light such as her’s.” He agreed, not wanting to replace it. “But I’ve wandered lost in this darkness a long time, would I even recognize another if I saw it?” And if he did see it, would he open his eyes to it?
The feeling of the beast stirring in his chest had gone now; smothered out by the new clenching feeling that nearly took his breath away. Ruger knew it was fear; fear that the warmth in this moment would be all taken away from him just like before. If only she had been able to stay in the Prairie, but then he doubted this conversation would have ever come to be. Rather than pull away, Ruger hoped to make the best of their time here before other matters took them apart.
Rather than putting his crown over hers, the painted stallion dropped his head just enough that as he tucked his chin his ebony cheek brushed against her neck. He wanted to be careful of what he did, not wanting to push her newly found desire but also wanting to show her that it would be alright. “Tell me you don’t want it and I won’t.” He said quietly, giving her the power of control. The stallion only sought the comfort of touch, nothing else, but moment she said to stop Ruger would not touch her again.
