The road goes ever on

Her smile falters, but it doesn't fade. Her smile returns and he is reminded of the daily fight to keep his head up. He watched his mother die as a young foal, he watched his aunt get taken away for months, and now he searches for his missing cousin. He could only imagine what was happening to Primrose right now after seeing the invisible scars placed on his aunt when she returned. Sanibel was still loving and kind, but she was different. The mare didn't have the same walk and he often found her gazing off lost in her head. Anyone could see she was hurting.

This buckskin in front of him was slightly older so he was sure she has seen or felt some anguish in her time, but she still smiles. She still tries to show him some comfort by touching her soft muzzle to his own. He knew right then this mare was kind. He breathes in and holds her scent for a moment or two before letting the air escape his lungs. He would remember her scent and he was determined to protect her just as he works to protect his family back home. She didn't know it, she might never know it, but Roheryn wanted to protect the kindness in her heart.

She speaks, but he smiles and shakes his head. "It is alright. There is no way you could have known." He says with bright blue eyes watching her soft expression. The buckskin changed the subject back to his journey and asks where he came from. He wants to answer, but the word damsel distracts him. There was no way the mare knew he was looking for a member of his own family, but having someone mention Primrose this way was unsettling. More so because he feared what was happening to her right now in light of the breeding season.

He goes to speak just as the mare begins to move. He watches her with interest, finding it surprising how close she was getting to him. She was so trusting. An even larger smile plays on his lips when she speaks, telling him she moved closer to help keep him warm. His muzzle reaches over and noses the taller mare's shoulder, but he quickly pulls away when he realizes he may be crossing a boundary. They were just meeting after all. Feray...she says her name was. Little painted one. "Little painted one? Is that a nickname someone calls you?" He teases a bit with a snicker. He eyes the roaning and varnish on her body.

His eyes quickly return to her mismatched eyes when that weird pricking feeling in his body returns. "Uh...anyway, Feray I came from the Prairie where I live with my aunt Sanibel and my cousin Primrose. My aunt just recently returned home from being held captive on Atlantis so my cousin went to tell a friend we have in the forest, but this was weeks ago and she never returned home. I already checked the forest, but the mare I met there didn't know who she was so I extended my search to here. I heard rumors the friend my cousin went to see left the islands, but I don't believe she would have left without telling anyone. I think something bad has happened..." His words trail off as his tongue dries out.

He leans closer to the mare as he speaks. "Thanks for listening to my problems." His smile fades, but he keeps a glimmer of hope in his eyes as he searches the landscape around them. When his head turns back to Feray he realizes he never introduced himself. "My name is Roheryn de Mikhail. I'm glad I met you Feray little painted one. You are very kind." His smiles returns. It was a small smile, but it was there as he looks at her.
