the song was upside-down

The bickering of adults has more effect on the children around them than they often realize. Their fighting seems to have them all lost in a state of melancholy, wondering if they are to blame, or how their own lives might change as the drama carries them into the future. Children are ever at the mercy of their parents.

Nattergal hangs at his sister's flank, watching Bran and Rayna with dark and troubled eyes.

Havelle is the one that speaks up, carrying the conversation forward in an effort to distract them from the tense air threatening to smother them all. "I don't remember father from before. What was he like?", she asks. Havelle has always wondered about her father. While Rougaru was an ever-present role model in Paradise, he didn't father them. Neither of them see Rougaru as a father, but neither of them see Liland as a father either. They both wonder what it might be like to have two parents. This move to the bay is a difficult change, but maybe they can gain something from it.

Nattergal's ears flip forward at his sister's question. He didn't think to ask, but now he hangs on edge, eager to hear what Rayna and bran might have to say in response.
