Live through this lie

Was I left behind?
Tell me, tell me I survived.

I'm surprised by Liland's words the longer this conversation drolls on. I didn't expect him to commit so easily to fighting for our cause, given the concern Larka had shared. I bob my head confidently, pleased to hear his answer. Though one copper-colored ear lobe flicks forward and back as he drones on about Rougaru and Warsaw. "This isn't about one stallion versus another Liland. It's much bigger than that." I say, my eyes narrowing on the fjord stud for a second. "It's about peace among the islands, for all of us. It's about fighting for what's right. I can't have an ally whose interest in steeped selfishly in just taking a jab at a stallion who wronged him once." I say, flicking my tail irritably.

"So I ask again. Can I count on you?" This time my head juts high over my withers, and I stare down my nose at the cream-colored stallion. It would be wise for him to choose his next words carefully.

But Liland quickly turns the conversation to Larka. I watch him now, trying to read his expression. Liland is no fool. He knew Larka and I had a history, so it would make sense for him to be suspicious in my interest in her. He explains how and why he decided to send the silvery mare to Rougaru, and my ears instinctively flick back against my poll. "So you sent the mother of your child away to your enemy, knowing well what Rougaru was capable of." I question, my tail whipping more violently back and forth over my rump. "But you said yourself that your lead mare and children were returned to you. I think it is selfish of you to keep a mother from her child. That bond is so important, especially in the early years." I say, incapable of holding my tongue any longer.

"If we're being honest with each other Liland, you should know that Larka is no longer in Paradise. She lives with me now, in the Prairie." I say with a snort. "Normally I'd never seek out a mare that belonged to an ally. But you threw her away, so I saw no need to get your permission to save her."
