PERSEPHONE

Persephone patrolled so often now, in these times of tension when she knew that war could be upon them at any moment. Any stray scent or sound could be Warsaw or one of his allies, coming to steal or attack or rape or do god knows what else to any one of the horses under her guard here in the Forest. She had made too many mistakes, and she was not prepared to make more.

It was these thoughts that were upon her when she was circling the perimeter of the Forest. A vicious storm was upon them, a welcome to the winter season that was just arriving. Rain ran in rivulets down her white-flecked pelt, and Persephone squinted her dark eyes against the cold wind, but she remained focused on her task.

She caught the foreign scent first, then as she drew closer she heard Creed’s voice, and finally happened upon her young companion and a stranger. Persephone eyed her cautiously as she approached. A mare, at least – unlikely to be a friend to Warsaw or Cullen – and she looked exhausted, and stood leant against a tree as if she couldn’t bear weight properly. She did not appear to be a threat, then, despite her impressive stature, and so Persephone’s expression softened.

She came up beside the pair, offering Creed a warm smile and nod off her head in greeting. She then turned her gaze on the stranger.

“Welcome to the Forest, stranger. I am Persephone, the leader here. What brings you to Luthien?”
