As the mares in his herd grew heavy with foal, he assumed that soon enough they would be giving birth and though some stallions might never wish to see such a process, Cain was actually curious of how the whole thing worked. He came into the world the same way as any foal and yet he knew nothing about it. Sure, he didn't have to go through it himself (thank goodness) but he wanted to know just how painful or beautiful it could be for his mares. Of course he knew better than to force his company on any of his mares if they didn't want him near. It was usually the practice for a mare to seek isolation when it was time but he sort of hoped someone might give him the honor of a bird's eye view of the whole process. He had a extra jig in his step as he walked the borders, his thick neck arched and his eyes bright. HE would become a father very soon and he couldn't wait.

Primrose certainly wouldn't have been his first guess for a mare who wanted him near during the birthing but it couldn't have come at a better time. He still hoped in time they would be able to repair their broken relationship and maybe, just maybe, he might somehow earn her trust and respect. He knew that would take a lot of time and she deserved all of it and more. Maybe she would still wish to leave him after the foal was born and when that time came, he would decide if he could be merciful, but he might be risking his child to do it and that killed him. He wanted to be a part of their lives, all of them. He wanted to be a father, like the one his own didn't get a chance to be. He didn't remember much of his own father from his first year with the herd, though most of it was spent running around playing with the other foals and learning about life.

Then it was all stripped away from him at the sound of helicoptor blades and men on horses with whips lashing his skin. He shook his head of such thoughts as Primrose's voice came to his ears. Snapping his head around, he pricked his ears and held his tail up in eagerness to please her, something he was trying out to get on her good side. Her first words made him inhale sharply and his ears laid back. No, he didn't want a child born in hatred either. When she told him that she hoped he understood how he wronged her, he let her see his new humble side and dropped his head, his eyes softening as he nodded. "Yes. I forced you to stay here and then forced myself on you. I'm sure you have felt like nothing more than a neglected prisoner in your stay here and I know there's no way I can go back and change that.

"I can only hope that in the future, I can show you that you do deserve better. I know the child was probably not wanted, but I hope that you can find love for him or her and look past the way he was created. I have learned a lot since coming to the islands, a lot I thought I knew but turns out, I didn't know anything at all." He shook his head, angry at himself as he snorted. "You have my deepest apologies, Primrose." He spoke those words slowly and carefully, wanting her to know that he meant each and every word, and that was his first ever apology to anyone. It felt so foreign coming off his tongue. But she wasn't done. She then demanded that he tell her why he forced himself on her and he sighed, thoughtful before he nodded. "You deserve that and more, though I don't know if you'll fully understand. I was taken from my herd as a yearling and raised in an isolated dirt pen by abusive humans. Most of the scars on my flesh are from their choice of training tool. I spent four years of my life running the fence lines, dreaming of escape and what I would do when I regained my freedom.

I wanted the most of what I could remember. A herd, foals, something to cherish, something to defend. I came back into the wild with a vengeance, seeking to take what I felt I was owed from the world for the way my life was taken from me for all that time. Everything and everyone who stood in my way was just an obstacle, but I would have what I wanted. When you came on the shores of the Desert, you were the first mare I came across and my instinct to claim was strong. I knew that I wanted you to stay here and I wanted you to carry my lineage, to start the dream that I wanted so badly. You were a victim of my greed and ignorance of the ways of the wild. I knew nothing till I started to interact with other horses, get to know other mares and find out that everything wasn't so black and white. Again...I can't take back what I did to you, but hopefully I can build a better bridge with you in the future, though I understand if you can't forgive me."

He waited patiently for her response, knowing their future and the future of their child hinged on her next words.
