The paint stallion was keeping an even closer eye on his mares as birthing time neared. He saw when his lovely bay mare, Geneva, made her way to the underground cave he showed her. He wondered if it was time, a snort falling from his nostrils, but he didn't go to her. She would let him know when she wanted him. He may not know a lot about mares and birthing, but he knew enough not to go to her space when she wasn't calling for him. Maybe this was something mares liked to do on their own. He stomped the ground, hating to know that he couldn't do anything about it, but he would withstand it for her, for any of them. He stayed there all night, watching the cave. He kept watch for Geneva, and listened to all the sounds coming from in there. He was curious and wanted to know what was happening but he wouldn't peek. She was strong. She could do this.
When the sun came up and the bay mare finally emerged from the cave, the stallion snorted and took a step toward them, his ears pricked at attention to the new little figure at her side. When she gave a nicker, he took that as a sign that he could approach and he did so without hesitation. Lowering his head and flaring his nostrils, he reached out his muzzle toward the pair and smiled. "Hello, Geneva. You have done well. He's healthy and strong, just as I knew he would be." He praised her as he reached out to lip at her forehead in affection before he turned to the little colt beside her. "Hello, son. You have a full life to look forward to. I know you'll make the best of it." His eyes were glowing with pride as he looked back at Geneva. "What did you name him?" He remembered well their conversation before about names but wondered if she didn't change her mind.
