can you see me now? birthing

As the sun wore on, the golden mare started to feel the first cramps. They weren't normal, so she had to assume it meant the pregnancy was drawing to a close. She looked forward to welcoming the child into the world, even if it meant the father might not be present to be in its life. Illusion knew what she was signing up for when she had that one night stand with Kestrel. She could handle this. She had to. Sighing, she moved along the dunes, trudging through the sand toward a shelter of trees. She liked to spend her time here when the sun got to be too much so it would serve fine for the magic that was about to happen. She moved under the trees and started to pace, not sure if she should lie down yet. The mare tried to let her instincts tell her what to do since this was her first time. When the urgency to push came, she groaned and lowered herself to the sand, rolling onto her side to start pushing.

She grunted and moaned in pain as each contraction hit, pushing when the urge came and taking breaks when she could. Sweat started to coat her flanks but she kept at it, gritting her teeth and pushing through the urge to quit. She would not give up on this child. Finally relief came and when she sat up, there was a dark filly blinking at her. Nickering softly, Illusion reached out to inhale the filly's sweet scent, cleaning and nudging her to make sure she knew who her mother was. Once the strength returned to her, Illusion made herself stand, grunting with the effort as her legs trembled. The filly watched her before snorting as she, too, tried to stand. It took a few tried and Illusion eventually reached out to help hold the filly up with her muzzle before the filly stood there wobbling on her stilt-like legs.

Whickering to her softly, Illusion nudged the filly till she moved to stand by her, reaching under to find what she needed. As the filly started to nurse, Illusion cleaned and nudged her flanks, marveling at her black roan coat so smoky and yet spots seemed to hide in the white. She took after her father. Illusion couldn't help but smirk a little. She was beautiful. As the filly nursed, Illusion watched her as if in a trance before she spoke softly. "Your father may be Kestrel, but your beauty will be deadly, my dear. Raptor shall be your name."
