Yo, I think this chick is mad dogging us right now.

His ears turned back and the irritable, sour expression he wore became more pronounced. Psychedelic wasn’t stupid, despite what some might think. Living with Talya practically every day of her entire existence taught him a lot about his daughter, and he knew how impossible it was for her to avoid the company of mares. Their last stay in the Forest had finally given her the chance to bond with other mares and though she didn’t quite understand the appeal as more capable horses might, her instincts were now constantly telling her she wanted to be closer to them. He never had to worry about her if they crossed another stallion’s paths (though he did have to worry about the stallions).

But mares?

Her whispered words tickled the hairs of his ear and made him snort and shake his head in irritation. Psychedelic stopped firmly in place, knowing Talya must be mere feet away in the dark cloak the tree shadows cast. He didn’t bother glancing their way, keeping his attention firmly on the dark mare instead.

“Good for you,” he replied dryly, drawing up his weight to favor the injured side.

He felt his heartbeat quicken. What had Talya told this mare?

Maybe she told her the truth.

That’s what scares me. Psychedelic wanted to mutter, but his old habit at suppressing conversing with the voice managed to catch his tongue before he did. He drew his attention back on her, trying not to get distracted. Damnit Talya… she couldn’t listen just once?

“And what exactly is it that you see, sweetheart?” Psychedelic asked, tone sardonic. Something brightened in his eyes. “Enlighten me.”
