send me reeling

i’m on fire, again
Rhadra lifts her head, intending to smile up at the sun and maybe pick out some shapes in the clouds bumbling intermittently across the great blue expanse as she relaxes oceanside, but her eyes snag on a swan-like head bobbing gently among the waves. She watches, bemused, as the other horse swims closer. This must be what she had looked like coming in with the tide last season, although— she squints, then chuckles. There had been less seaweed tagging along for her arrival.

When the other mare hails her, the black vanner whinnies in response and nearly wades out into the water. She is still reluctant to wet her legs, however, and waits where she is for the pale mare to splash closer. Still, she longs for socialization and finds herself leaning over the incoming waves, stretching her neck to offer her muzzle to the other with a series of soft introductory breaths. “It is quite lovely,” Rhadra replies. “I was just admiring the little silver fish who swim so fast in the shallows. Have you come a long way?”

She remembers her own swim across the ocean. It had been arduous enough to keep her from even playing in the shallows as she recalls how long her muscles ached after that journey. But, she has just recently learned that these lands are Islands, and her curiosity has been piqued. Tentatively, Rhadra paws at the wet sand just as a wave swirls up and around her feathered hoof. “I’d join you, but... Is the water warm?” she asks a trifle anxiously.
