the strange way of the world

If he was anything like his father Evanescence would be pregnant with his child in this moment of reunion. He would take her home as suggested, have his way, and keep her until someone fought for her and won.

But he was not Warsaw.

She explained Warsaw had ambushed Ruger and took her captive. He was sorry for her, for anything he might have done to cause this. He had never told his father what happened between them. Warsaw had just assumed Ruger had come back and defeated him in a battle for her so he was helping by taking her back. Truth was, Requiem never expected to see her again. The only way he stopped crying over her was imagining she was no longer someone he would ever see again. She disappeared from his life just as his mother had. Requiem stood frozen at the sight of the colt until Evie nuzzled him back behind her. She seems like such a good mother...he once imagined her raising their own children this way. Protecting and loving them just as a mother should.

She demands to know what Warsaw wants of her, but her demanding eyes soon turn to him as Warsaw explains she was being given to him. He gulps loudly, nervously, as she tells him to get it over with. Get what over with? He waits until Warsaw was no longer within earshot to speak. He knew if he said anything about not taking advantage of her that Warsaw would take the task upon himself. He watches until the form of his father become small before turning his focus back on Evanescence and Ryder. "I did not ask him to do this." He says again, shifting his weight awkwardly. "I don't want anything from you. I let you go, but I never told Warsaw why you were gone. I'm sorry." Honey brown eyes fall to the ground at her hooves. Would he really have to watch her walk away from a second time?

"Please, just wait until Warsaw goes back to the Forest and then leave here with your son. Go back to Ruger." He could not look at her anymore. He couldn't look at her son either so his eyes stay glued to the ground. His ears hide into his cream colored hair thinking he could just shut out the sounds of the world around him. He didn't want to hear any of the noises the young foal might make. He didn't want to hear her hoof steps as she walks away.
