bring me back to life...

There was definitely a difference in the stallion standing before her. When she showed signs of defiance, stepping toward him, he lashed out with a front hoof. Her whole body shivered, knowing the damage he could do but her heart still ached for him, somehow telling her that no matter her instincts, he wouldn't hurt her. When he lurched at her, she gasped and stiffenced but didn't move, placing herself even more between him and Ryder. She would take the pain a thousand times over before letting him harm his own son. Somehow she knew he would never forgive himself if he did something to him. He stopped just before her, the air from his movement lifting her mane from her neck as she jerked her head back, watching him rear and lash out as her eyes widened, the whites rolling in her fear of whatever happened to him in her absence.

Her heart ached for him and what pain he must have gone through while she was away. When he came down, she took a half step toward him as if to comfort him, her eyes searching his. He was trembling and the smell of sweat assaulted her nostrils. He gnashed his teeth and she quivered again, knowing those same teeth could ravage her skin if he really wanted to. But something was holding him back. She had to believe it was his love for her that kept him from touching her. When he did reach out, she fought her instincts to back away, bracing her body as his velvet soft muzzle brushed her skin. She inhaled sharply, continuing to watch him carefully. "Ruger..." The whisper fell from her lips in wanting. When his ears pricked, her heart swelled with hope. He wasn't completely lost to her. He shivered and then he was leaning against her. She breathed out, letting the warmth of his body seep into her.

Her body quivered with pleasure this time but she didn't want to break the spell so she didn't move to touch him. When that plea fell from his lips, her body melted against him. "Always, my love. Whatever you need, I'm here." She glanced again toward Ryder, making sure he was still where she could see him. He took a small step toward them, watching his father with growing curiosity as the anxiety started to seep from his body. She gave a small shake of her head though, just enough for him to see that she didn't deem it safe enough yet. She couldn't chance something triggering Ruger and him hurting Ryder.
