He felt some confidence returning when the young red mare decided to follow him back to the Desert without giving him a full interrogation in the Common. He was used to a lot more push back in the past. Of course, he'd been working on his greeting to mares and how to approach them and hoped that meant he was getting better at it. No one would know he used to have a very different approach to mares in his past. He liked that the mare was moving freely behind him, not hesitant or hostile. She knew this was her choice to make and that she could withdraw it at any time and that seemed to set her at ease. The thought made him smile. He would never hold another mare prisoner or keep them somewhere they didn't want to be. Just the thought made him mind sink back into worry as he thought of Primrose and wondered if or when he would ever see her again.

Once they reached the shore, he shook off his coat then stepped aside to let Mazarine get her fill of the Desert herself. He picked the same pace as she did, letting her lead so she could look around in freedom and get a feel for the place. She seemed to move through the sand with little effort and he smiled as he watched her, hoping she would take to the heat as some of his lighter coat mares did with ease. She was small, yes, but he wouldn't base anything on size. She seemed intelligent and spirited, just the kind of horse that would survive in a desert landscape. Maybe she could help pull some of his other mares out of their shells and get them socializing more. Though he was two down now as far as he was concerned. Primrose....might be lost to him forever, but he knew Vihaan would come back to him as soon as she knew her family was safe from the war.

When the red mare came upon an oasis, Cain slowed his pace to give her free rein of the shelter, watching over her as she got a good drink. He waited until she was done before slowly slipping into the water beside her and lowering his own head to drink. "So..what do you think?" He pricked his ears, wondering what she would tell him of the place he called home. He wanted her honest opinion, no matter how harsh it might be. He knew his herdlands weren't exactly a horse's idea of paradise, but he chose this place on purpose and he stood by that choice. It was rugged and not everyone could thrive here. But he did and his herd did and that proved everything he needed to know. They were survivors. If they could survive this landscape, they could survive anything.

His head snapped around when he heard someone approaching, ready to defend Mazarine if needed. When he saw Zubeia and Geneva though, he gave a low nicker of greeting and pricked his ears, his eyes softening with affection. Geneva was the first to introduce herself but Zubeia had tended to be less social in groups in the past. His gaze went to Mazarine, letting her introduce herself and answer the question though he knew she most certainly wasn't lost. Finally Zubeia introduced herself as well and Cain gave a reassuring smile. He chose to be silent for now, letting them get a feel for each other.
