The red mare seemed strong and determined. He had the feeling that he'd hate to piss her off. Not all mares wanted to be settled down herd mares that pop out babies every breeding season just like all stallions didn't want to fight over mares and grow a great big herd. Dex knew he didn't. He'd never had that same fire as some of the other bachelors he used to run with. He wouldn't ask Talien for a foal every breeding season. Even if the one she currently carried was the only baby she ever gave him, he would still be the luckiest stallion alive to have her. Their shared lineage would be the apple of his eye and he would never forget the sacrifice she made to give this to him. Maybe the dun mare wasn't interested in being a herd mare at all and that was alright. Dex just couldn't help but wonder if she would ever run into a stallion who didn't give her the chance to say no and strangely, just the thought irritated him.

He didn't have any claims to her though maybe by the end of this conversation, he could leave thinking her his friend. But just knowing her made him a little protective and the thought of anyone trying to force anything on her made a ball of red curl up in his chest and tested the boundaries of the red haze he could find himself in if he wasn't too careful. Talien had only gotten a taste of it when she admitted that she was forcebred by another stallion at the last herd meeting. He had managed somehow to get his temper in check, but it was a very fine line, especially where she was concerned. She probably still remembered when they were young and he almost killed that other colt just for not backing down. They were just kids and Dex was sure he was teasing about claiming Talien as his own, but just the idea made him see red and then everything blacked out.

By the time he came to, he was rearing up over the colt's prone body and Talien was screaming for him to stop. He managed to barely miss the colt's body when he came down and then he ran off, ashamed of his outburst and what the filly he liked would think of him. she forgave him for that, but the years in the bachelor herd weren't the smoothest and Dex found his temper tested more than ever. Once the others found out about his black-outs, they started to bait him just to make their own jobs easier for stealing mares from unsuspecting herds. Dex was being used and that's one of the reasons he knew he needed to leave the bachelors and strike out on his own. He didn't have control of his temper and maybe he never would, but it was usually triggered by his protective nature and especially his possessive urges when it came to Talien.

He brought himself back to the present when the mare spoke again, saying fair weather warnings didn't exist and he shook his head with a small smirk. "No, probably not." When she asked her name, he blinked and then gave a more sheepish smile. "I'm sorry, forgot that I didn't even introduce myself. I'm Dex. Pleasure to meet you, Sighurd."
