enigma

Had Enigma been any other mare, she might have glared at Liland for continuing to suggest that she ought to leave her not-mother. But such pressuring went beyond her mentality, and removing Saffron’s energetic parasite would have been nigh impossible to begin with. Nope, like it or not, Saffron was stuck with Enigma, and by extension, Liland was now stuck with her too. So, Enigma ignored his suggestion of going to find a herd. As far as she was concerned, Saffron was her herd.

She let the more experienced and wise lay out the finer details. Enigma was happy so long as she had a full belly, dark skies, brightly lit stars, and her not-mother. She was a simple horse, content by simple things, and no one had ever told her it was wrong to be the way she was. When Saffron mentioned Jareth, however, Enigma looked to her. Jareth was always a sore subject, even if Enigma loved to hear the tales about the pair’s tribulations here on Tinuvel.

Discussion largely complete (Enigma hoped,) Saffron moved toward her and Enigma positively wriggled like some over-eager dog. She blew out a rattly-with-excitement snort and crab-stepped to her, closing the remaining distance within milliseconds.

“Can we play tag now?! Freeze tag?! I want to play freeze tag!”

When her mane was pulled, Enigma let out a squeal that echoed off the trees and into the Bay’s surrounding area. She rose in the smallest, slowest of half rears, her ears flicking back--at least until she realized that in order to play freeze tag, she had to sit still when tagged.

“Oh. I lost,’ she said, gloomily, ‘but it’s my turn to be ‘it’ now, right?!”
