I look at Cerosi briefly as she asks me if I feel better to be out of the cold. I smile and respond, "Yes, thank you for asking." Cerosi asks Cain regarding his past. I listen to Cain as he describes his past encounters and the creation of his herd. To some, these may seem like atrocities. But to me, they seemed like learning opportunities. She regards Cain quietly as he finishes. My bright green eyes darken slightly. "I have not know you long, but I think it's safe to say you've learned a thing or two in your time growing up." She says it simply. "I was not always wild," I begin. "I was bred, in the desert. A prize for man if you can imagine. So I can understand the desire of possession. It is something man knows well. It can lead to reprehensible behavior. I won't judge you." I wish I was ready to speak more about my past. But I just couldn't. The pain was still too deep. But I wanted to make an effort to be present more. I could see that Cain needed it. He needed comfort. I could see there was a level of self hate that he carried with him. That weight must be heavy. I nod to Cerosi, agreeing to explore more. I feel more at ease the longer I've been in their company. |
