The paint stallion liked to think he'd gotten more observant through all his time interacting with mares and learning their body language and individual gestures. Melisma was always more reserved but he couldn't miss the sudden dullness in her pretty eyes. She slowly looked up at him when he questioned her, giving a sigh and that was the confirmation he needed that indeed, something was bothering her. Hopefully she'd let him in enough to see what it was so perhaps he could help make it better, if possible. She started to speak and her voice trailed off. Instead of pressuring her, Cain rested his back hoof and pricked his ears attentively, wanting her to know that she had his full focus and he would stay here as long as was necessary to get to the root of the problem. He considered it his duty and he wanted her happiness above all.

Her first words were unexpected, his brow rising as she admitted he was her first stallion and this, her first home. She must mean after her home herd where she was born but somehow Cain had just assumed she'd wandered to the islands from another herd where she'd been underappreciated. Maybe he had read her all wrong in the beginning to think she had some bad past and that's why she was so more shy than most of the mares he met. Maybe that was just her personality not to see her own self worth. When she mentioned the upcoming season, that's when the light bulb truly flicked on in Cain's mind. Fall....breeding season. His lips parted in surprise before he slowly closed them, his eyes lighting up again in relief to know what the problem was.

He was about to try his best at reassurance when she shook her head and apologized, saying she was being childish. With a soft snort, the stallion shook his head. "Not at all. You should never had to apologize for your thoughts. They mean something. They're important to me. I would never pressure you to give me a foal and you should never feel obligated to do that. If the moment comes and you're ready and want to, then I would be honored to be a father to your child. We have plenty of time. I don't plan on losing you." He said with a small smile and a playful wink, hoping to cheer her up a little with that tease. Then his face sobered again as he went on. "As for this year, you're always welcome to come by or, if you want to stay discreet, I can always meet you somewhere." He added in a softer voice, like he was conspiring with her. Maybe she'd enjoy meeting up in the dark one night on the mainland. She was surprising him all the time so why not?

Then his expression turned affectionate. "But again, no pressure here. You're holding all the cards, Melisma. You get to decide when, where, or not at all. The ball is completely in your court." He was hoping by letting her know she had control, it would eleviate some of her worry.
