i'll get under your skin

She could feel the gaze of the graying bay mare beside her raking over her silhouette as they walked and she flaunted in the attention, arching her pretty neck and letting her tail billow out behind her as they moved along. She'd always enjoyed attention and learned to lord over it in her former herd. She just didn't want to be touched without permission and Vapor was all about that. He was icky and disgusting and he liked to try to nip her or brush up against her any time he chose and she was sick of it. He made her want to barf. She enjoyed grooming and playing with the other mares in the herd. She could make fast friends if they weren't intimidated and she was beginning to like Sayyida already. She might already have a friend! The mare seemed ecstatic when she greeted her back in Arabic, a grin that lit up her pretty features spreading across her lips as they moved along. Every time she inhaled, Corona could smell the sand and the sun on her skin and she wanted to bask in that aroma all day. What was it like where she lived?

She wondered if there were other mares and stallions, even. The mare smelled of a stallion. Surely, he was handsome or knew other handsome stallions. When she said she was new, Sayyida laughed and the sound was musical. Corona's ears pricked toward her, wanting to take in every last chord. She said she'd been here nearly a year and the grey snorted softly. "Well then you must be well versed in the herd lands around here and the horses that call them home." She said it was a fact instead of a question, flattering the mare before the subject changed to something more sobering. It seemed they had more in common than even Corona could guess. Sayyida was fleeing a bad marriage but when she mentioned snow and ice, Corona's ears laid back and she grimaced. "Sounds like a nightmare. Though, I do understand bad marriage. I had a betrothed in my former home and he was very controlling and vile. I came here to escape as well."

When the sabino went on, she said a friend showed her to Salem. That must be her home, Corona thought to herself. She spoke of finding others and a beloved, which made Corona smile to think of a happy ending. "I pray he treats you well as you deserve. Salem sounds like a paradise." Maybe other breeds wouldn't think so but Corona never felt more at home than when she had warm sand beneath her hooves and a hot sun overhead. To bask in the shade beneath the palm trees was one of her greatest pasttimes. Sayyida offered another name then, the Dunes, saying that's where they lived now. Corona perked up, memorizing the name. "That's a lovely name." When the bay mare grew thoughtful, Corona flicked an ear back in puzzlement. She looked to be figuring something out in her mind for a moment before she spoke again. At the offer, the grey mare practically squealed with excitement. Her hooves danced in place as her tail gave a joyful swoosh.

"I would be honored to come with you." She forced herself to speak the words as calmly as possible, though her eyes practically twinkled with exitement. The offer was even for her to leave if she didn't like it there. It sounded too good to be true. But the more Corona looked over the mare's well muscled form and saw the healthy light in her eyes, the more she wanted to believe this place was perfect for her. There was nothing forced in Sayyida's words and she seemed genuinely happy about her home and wanted to share it. How could she turn that down? And, like the cherry on the pie, Sayyida even mentioned her husband had handsome brothers. It was like she could read her mind! Her lips twisted into a more coy smirk as she dipped her head and batted her lashes. "Oh, you've got all the answers, don't you, Sayyida?" She gave a teasing giggle, though her face sobered when the mare grew doubtful.

With a snort and shake of her head, she replied. "Oh no, don't be sorry. I was practically drawing a map in my head to get to this magical place on my own if you didn't invite me. It sounds perfect. I can't wait to see it."
