i dare you to do something

She knew of Sayyida, had seen her, if only at a quick glance. They didn't mingle in the same circles, or at least that's what Zazu thought--she was a soldier, after all, not a mare waiting to be scooped up into royal marriage. But she supposed that was what a dream some had, one she could not quite grasp herself. Zazu shrugs slightly, her shimmering shoulder, the tild of her head, "the gods have a puckish way about them sometimes."

The stories of the brothers, the princes, she listens while she lips at the water. The sun hangs high, a burnt disc in the blue sky--the sand is on fire, the palms still and solemn around her. Zazu knew she was pushing her boundaries, which was what had gotten her into toruble in the past, but she could hardly help it. Not with a prince standing there spouting ideas about freedoms, did he truly believe in such a concept?

"Ah," she says take a cools sip and turning to face him, "would you brother truly be angry and deny a soldier of the very army sworn to protect our Motherland? I don't believe he would want one of Pehket's finest to thirst."

There's a laugh, soft but icy, her dark eyes turn on him. Her eyelashes, short and bristled, are dusted with sand still.

Zazu wades out of the pool though, then shakes herself out. "How did you come here and why? Was it chance, or did the gods show you in signs the way?" Her head tilts, her mouth twists.
