She was confused as to what was happening. They had to leave the Inlet, but it was Bjorn who was taking it over? She didn’t understand how that was so bad, but most of the herd was so angry. Mother didn’t say much, but Isabel didn’t like the way she answered Haskuldr’s questions about their father. She understood more than Askold had that they broke up, but it was still hard to process. Her mother now threatens to keep Haskuldr from Bjorn for his actions! The young colt doesn’t seem to mind since he only met his father at birth and remembers hardly anything of him.
When she thought too much about it, she grew sad. Bjorn was one of the other stallions she felt she could trust, but they couldn’t live here with him. She knew why mother couldn’t, she knew the threats of Nyimara being a guardian over them (she was still afraid of the mare), but she didn’t understand why coming to see Bjorn was such a risk. Ysabel asked her not to go alone. Do young girls growing into their new hormones ever listen?
Isabel sneaks away from her family as rest for the night. She takes the familiar trail through the trees to the Inlet where she has lived since spring. Actually, Isabel was born here before being sent with her mother to live with Bjorn before she was a year old. Ysabel had taken her to the Lagoon soon after birth to meet her real sire, but he had never showed. Besides Warsaw (who didn’t spend much time with her), Bjorn was the first father figure in her life so she saw him as her father. It became even more weird when Sigurdr came into play. The colt had bravely protected her when they were stolen by Cullen and his henchmen. He was cute, brave, and everything she wanted in a future mate.
Everyone else was too scary. The male gender scared her. Isabel comes to stand in a field of artic poppies that still bloom despite the thin layer of snow all around them. She smiles as her nose pops over to one and she takes in the sweet scent of the flower before violently sneezing.
