She is spending her days since becoming pregnant with no small amount of warmth in her breast. She knows she is not the greatest, nor most well known, but she has a home with a man who valued her - even if she erred away from calling it love yet. She had seen love, been in love, and that was not quite what she felt this to be. Not yet. Not that unwavering calling that moved beyond just lust and companionship. It was that otherworldly something that grew up out of those two things like two trees growing to twine themselves.
When Chimeras comes into view, she is not aware of who she is and she barks a word at Carbon and Vulcan, ‘Boys,’ being all that needs saying these days. Momma Berit was not the kindly sort, that was for certain, when it came to disobedience. Vulcan, at least, had learned fast not to tempt his mother when she would be glad to keep her peace till he was unsuspecting about a faux pas he had committed even days before. He had come to terms with the fact that he could not keep away from her forever and was thus much more quick to respond when her tone was as it was now.
The other mare is wise to keep distant, Vulcan keeping a bead on her and his mother in that way some protective sons seem to become when their mothers are indisposed. "Hey there! I'm Chimeras. I don't believe we've met before. I mean you've seen me around I'm sure but we've never officially met." She knows enough that Chimeras smells of the Desert and vaguely remembers the passing of someone looking much like her in the random circumstances she found herself anywhere outside the caves or the dune grasses.
The offer of a muzzle makes Berit step forward, but she does not extend as encouragingly as Chimeras was wont to. She may have seen her, but Cain was one to give wayward souls refuge and she had found no reason to think Chimeras wouldn’t be one of them - afterall, where was the rounded belly of a mare who had a stud to claim her? She keeps an ear out for Nadine, for Cain, for Akello - but she bobs her head when they both pull back. "I am Berit and these are my sons. I have seen you in passing, but I am a bit more secluded where I stay than to have made a proper acquaintance. It is good to meet you, Chimeras."
"I am Vulcan, this is my brother Carbon." As always, he includes the other boy, looking about ready to defend both mother and brother in spite of the lack of offense offered by the interloper on their daily interactions. "She does not offer harm, Vulcan. Be kind."
