As the question leaves her lips, there is the rustle of foliage from behind her, and then her sister is on the scene. There’s a little lurch in her belly as Sephine approaches the other filly, and Arkana briefly buries her ears in her mane as a warning to her sister to behave herself. Thankfully, Sephine only offers her nose to the filly in greeting, and - remembering her manners, which she had forgotten in her surprise - Arkana follows suit.
Her ears twitch at the filly’s self-important and confrontational tone, but before she can formulate a retort, Sephine butts in about something more trivial: hair, of all things. “It’s ‘cause you’re such an airhead,” she teases her sister, leaning down to tug with her teeth at the offending black and white locks. Then she turns to impassively inspect the silver filly’s mane, and sure enough, it’s thicker and fluffier than even her own, though stunted by youth. She feels no stab of jealousy, however, having seen with her own eyes how the filly sticks out in her own herd. Unique as the filly is, Arkana is quite content to be identifiable as Evren’s daughter and Sephine’s full-sister. Their physical resemblance makes her feel closer to them, somehow.
“Yeah, we’re sisters,” she replies, her initial annoyance at the filly melting away to something like pity. With a playful side-eye at Sephine, she adds, “Sometimes I like to pretend that we’re not related, but we most definitely are.” Her mismatched eyes refocus on the little silver filly. “In fact, you might be related to us. I’ve seen you around, in Shamwari’s herd. He’s our dad. Is he yours too?”
The question feels forced, voiced more out of politeness than anything else, but at the very least, it could spark an interesting conversation if Arkana’s suspicions are correct.
