His mind wandered a bit as Arkana drank, satisfied he had been able to help. He was beginning to feel sleepy, however, and the lower the sun sank the heavier his eyelids got. He had not rested properly after the fight, but on top of that he had been running around between islands all day. His muscles were tired and sore, and the sound of the creek was just so soothing.

But he didn’t let himself drift off, and when Arkana’s painted head lifted from the water, he shook out his mane to wake himself up. He hoped she didn’t notice he was tired; for all of his exhaustion, he was still attentive, and still felt the desire to watch over the young mare.

When she asked if he would stay with her on the Crossing, Kaiju grinned. He was partially happy he wouldn’t have to swim anywhere tonight, but mostly he was just glad he hadn’t spooked her away or made her uncomfortable. ”Sure, I’ll stay,” he said happily. ”I was planning on spending the night out here, anyway. It’s starting to get cold after dark, so probably smart not to make that swim tonight since I bet the water will be freezing.” The Percheron in his blood didn’t actually care so much about the cold, but he suspected it would be fairly uncomfortable for Arkana, who was much smaller than he.

Now, he felt less bad about being sleepy as he scoped out their surroundings for a good place to settle for the night. They were in the trees, tucked away not too far from the communal Meadow, so Kaiju thought they would be pretty safe. Plus, the trunks blocked the wind, which was gentle but cold. ”In the morning, I can take you home, if you’d like,” he offered, not realizing the possibility of getting into trouble with Arkana’s parents, but realizing too late that he did not know how to get there. He had found a comfy spot leaning against a broad trunk with his knees locked, with a little dip in the earth next to him embraced by the roots of another tree. It was a good spot for Arkana to curl up, if she wanted to, but Kaiju wasn’t feeling quite ready to doze off yet. ”I’m actually... not very familiar with Luthien,” he admitted. She was going to find out tomorrow when he couldn’t find the island, anyway, so he might as well come clean. ”Will you tell me about it?”
